The paper introduces the current discussion concerning artificial termination of human life at its very end in the Czech Republic. It introduces the reader to current Czech law on the issue of respect for human life, outlines the history of regulation of euthanasia in criminal law from the Austro-Hungarian period to the establishment of the Czech Republic in 1993, and focuses on the legal analysis of three major attempts to regulate euthanasia in Czech legislation in 2004, 2008 (2016), and most recently in 2020. Finally, it briefly introduces the reader to the reactions of the Czech Catholic Church to the individual legal proposals.
