Exposure to VDTs does not result in any organic damage to the eye. The levels of ionizing and non-ionizing radiations emitted by VDTs are below safety standards. The authors suggest some guidelines to reduce the problems related to eye strain. It is important to correct ergonomic conditions, eye examinations are useful before starting work with VDTs and thereafter as well as regular rest pauses during continuous activity. A special consideration is also due to mental stress and to psycho-social factors which seem to play a role in the genesis of the ocular fatigue.
