The reflections here proposed intend only to offer an introduction to the examination of some human and social aspects involved in these assisted reproductive technologies which imply “creating children and building families, a fundamental social value” (ISLAT). They fall under three perspectives: 1) the response given by science to the request to produce a child, and the correlative ethical implications of experimentation on the human embryo; 2) the response given by medicine to the request for a “child” who is “healthy”, and its correlative deontological and ethical implications: its measure of success and its consequences; and 3) the repercussion of the impact of these new technologies upon family and, in consequence, upon society.</p>}, number={5}, journal={Medicina e Morale}, author={Serra, Angelo}, year={1999}, month={Oct.}, pages={861-883} }
