Some ethical considerations about Liber Augustalis.

Abstract

The Frederick the Second of Swabia’s Liber Augustalisis is a little known collection of law, if we are not studiouses or students of history of law. This legislation, otherwise known as “Melfi Constitutions”, contains some norms of professional ethics and sanitary police that show Swebian Emperor’s foresighted.

In this article, the Authors think that it is opportune to exclusively analyse the so called Frederich the Second’s “sanitary laws”, i.e. eleven titles contained in the third book of the Constitutions, dedicated to health issues. A second reading of these norms proved useful first of all beacuse they regulate some still topical issues and, secondly, because they were ahead of time regarding the ways to face some sanitary problems. In fact, these solutions maintain validity today regarding the principles both from the health regulation point of view and ethical one.
